End Users’ Perspective of Performance Issues in Google Play Store Reviews
2022
The success of mobile applications is closely tied to their performance which shapes the user experience and satisfaction. Most users often delete mobile apps from their devices due to poor performance indicating a mobile app’s failure in the competitive market. This paper performs a quantitative and qualitative analysis and investigates performance-related issues in Google Play Store reviews. This study has been conducted on 368,704 reviews emphasizing more 1- and 2-star reviews distributed over 55 Android apps. Our research also reports a taxonomy of 8 distinct performance issues obtained using manual inspection. Our findings show that end-users recurrently raised Updation (69.11%), Respo…

On the correlation of psychological characteristics within recreational marathon runners
2015
Oschwald Miles, 2015. On the Correlation of Psychological Characteristics Within Recreational Marathon Runners. Master’s Thesis in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Department of Sport Science. University of Jyväskylä. University of Jyväskylä. 40 p. The purpose of this research study was to explore the performance related experiences of recreational marathon runners. Specifically, the relationship these experiences have with other psychological constructs involved in undertaking and maintaining participation in a given sport. Using self-report measures the psychobiosocial states prior to most successful performances, achievement goal orientations, motivation and regulation for sport participat…
An Information Systems Design Product Theory for Integrated Requirements, Test and Defect Management Systems
2012
Software companies need to develop high-quality products fast and with low cost. Development activities are typically distributed in different places and involve multiple stakeholders in different countries. Testing is an important way to ensure product quality but it is costly and takes ample time and resources. Sourcing testing services from specialized service providers is often the most viable option for software businesses. Flexible and effective test process management is especially vital to support the testing life-cycle when external testing service providers are involved. Yet, the extant literature provides little theoretical guidance for managing the testing life-cycle, including …
Multi-hop D2D Communications with Network Coding : From A Performance Perspective
2019
Multi-hop device-to-device (D2D) communications play an important role in expanding D2D coverage. In this paper, we study a relay-based and network-coding-assisted (in particular, XOR coding) multi-hop D2D communication system. In the system, toward jointly considering the impact of interference and network traffic conditions on the quality of D2D communications, various channel fading models and traffic models are investigated, and the packet loss probability of D2D links is meticulously computed using these models. With the packet loss probability of D2D links, the general closed-form expressions of end-to-end packet loss probability (E2EPLP) of the system with the presence (or absence) o…
Problem Transformation Methods with Distance-Based Learning for Multi-Target Regression
2020
Multi-target regression is a special subset of supervised machine learning problems. Problem transformation methods are used in the field to improve the performance of basic methods. The purpose of this article is to test the use of recently popularized distance-based methods, the minimal learning machine (MLM) and the extreme minimal learning machine (EMLM), in problem transformation. The main advantage of the full data variants of these methods is the lack of any meta-parameter. The experimental results for the MLM and EMLM show promising potential, emphasizing the utility of the problem transformation especially with the EMLM. peerReviewed
Estimating traffic operations at multi-lane roundabouts: A case study
2014
This paper addresses traffic modeling issues at urban multi-lane roundabouts where, despite circulating vehicles have priority, negotiation of the right-of-way can occur between antagonist traffic flows, as a result of minor drivers’ failing to obey the nominal operating rule (stop or yield control). Existing models for the estimation of operational performances have the shortcoming of not representing the interdependencies between entering and circulating vehicles at multi-lane roundabouts. An analytical capacity model derived from field observations was developed for this kind of intersections in a previous study. The complexity of the model lies in the difficulty of observing the behavio…
Essays on wages, promotions and performance evaluations
2017
This dissertation comprises four empirical research articles that use personnel data from a large university and worker-level panel data from Finland to examine the determinants of wages, promotions and employee performance evaluations. The first article employs personnel data to examine the importance of worker output and job seniority as predictors of employee performance evaluations and promotions. The results suggest that better-performing employees – with output measured both in absolute terms and relative to peers – were more likely to be assigned higher performance grades and had a higher probability of being promoted to more complex jobs than their peers with similar characteristics…
